Makeup Brush Storage Idea

Does anyone else struggle to store their brushes? For the past few months I have been using a smiggle pencil tin to store my eye brushes, and it works really well for me.

How do you store your brushes?

I have been using some nice vase/candle holder. I also added the water beads but for some reason they have shrunk and have left some of my brush handel a little destroyed.

I'm so paranoid about

I'm so paranoid about scratching up the handles of my brushes, so I have never used beads - foam works really well though!

I have a couple of storage solutions to my brushes. I found these pen holders at Sam's Warehouse for $3 and I keep the brushes I rarely use in them. They are then covered with a snap lock bag to keep the dust out. I took a photo with and without!
I then have several brush rolls and the brushes in there vary depending on how much I use them. I have a sneaking suspicion that I've misplaced a brush roll some where in this house! Really need to assess and catalogue the 100+ brushes that I own and organise them properly.

Great storage idea! Thanks

Great storage idea! Thanks for sharing, and I can relate to having too many brushes - I lose mine far too often!

I have one of those pen

I have one of those pen (brush) holders too, i love that its sectioned, so i split up the different types of shadow brushes so i'm not searching through all of them of 1 type.  Love the bag over the top, stealing that idea (i'm paranoid about dust in my brushes).

I think I'm going to start

I think I'm going to start putting a bag over my brushes as well - they are such an investment, you can never be too careful!

Wow. That zip lock bag is a great idea. Never would have thought of that.

Zip Lock bags are my total

Zip Lock bags are my total favourite too, but they're generally relegated to the handbag for those products that I have leakage paranoia about and to protect valuable (such as my Kindle) gadgets stored in their proximity - I've never thought about their dust-repelling properties!

Genius.   :-D

I have a snap lock bag fetish

I have a snap lock bag fetish! I own every size available, all lined up in my pantry. Just last night I bagged my necklaces because I was sick of untangling them every time I wanted to wear one so I never bothered.

Glad to help spread my OCD tendancies! Ahem, I mean beauty tips!

Thanks Sara!  And it's so

Thanks Sara!  And it's so cheap too!

I used rice in a large bowl

I used rice in a large bowl for a long time to stand up my brushes, I never had a scratched handle and it worked really well.
I tried all the 'interesting' kinds of rice but long grain worked the best, it was easier to get the brushes in and out than the other styles were.

I'm absolutely in LOVE with this makeup storage display: http://media.vogue.com/files/filecheck/2012/01/27/6-For-Makeup-cosmetics-holder_15115839940.jpg_article_gallery_slideshow_v2.jpg from vitra.com

Unfortunately, at a cool $500 it's just a little out of my budget :P

Has anyone seen anything else like it at a more affordable price?

Oh wow, that's gorgeous! I've never seen anything like that, but it'd be a great way to organise your everyday makeup. I'm also interested in tracking down a cheaper version.

I need to sort out my 'storage'...my makeup and brushes are bit of an "organised mess" lol most of my individual brushes are just stored in cosmetic bags.

Oh you need to sort that out! I worry with cosmetic bags that my brush bristles will get misshapen - and my brushes are my precioussssss

I think I may have convinced

I think I may have convinced my friend's helpful partner into making a dvd style storage rack for all my Z Palettes, I just need ot give him sizes, I offered to decorate it...because thats the part I'm good at!
That storage idea is pretty awesome, I saw something similar but it was a white board and magnetised stickers on makeup items, I decided i'd need a whole room of whiteboards for my stuff...

Lizzi | Makeup Utopia Contributor | makeupandsmellthecoffee.blogspot.com.au

I've actually seen people use

I've actually seen people use the wire dvd storage racks to house palettes, not a bad idea at all!

And I agree with you about the whiteboards - but it could be handy for the day-to-day essentials that get used every day?

Thank you for the idea! I

Thank you for the idea! I might try your storage idea to store my makeup brushes. I have my brushes in a pen container and some rolling around my table!

Love Jasmine.

I store my brushes in pencil

I store my brushes in pencil holders. I found them at bargain stores for a couple of dollars.
I have three - eye brushes, pencil products and lip brushes, face brushes.

So neat and tidy!

So neat and tidy!

This is what my makeup station looks like right now:
Brush containers
There's 4 glass vases there, and my pencil holder from Smiggle.

Pretty neat and tidy? Haha but here's what my desk looks like right now:
Messy Desy
No room left for me to work!

Let me just say, that storing your brushes scattered across your desk is not a good idea for anyone!

A night out involves so many face and eye brushes and they get thrown EVERYWHERE! My room pretty much looks like that desk picture of yours, Sara-May.

Here's my new 'brush holder'...it's actually a pen/pencil holder, I bought it for only $2 from the Reject shop. As soon as I saw it, I thought it would be a perfect brush holder. (sorry, some of my brushes need cleaning)

i like your pink brushes very

i like your pink brushes very cool! what brand are they?

thanks, my double ended eye

thanks, my double ended eye shadow brush (pink) is from Sportsgirl. It was $2.95! bargain and the Pink/White stippling brush is from a brand called Urban Beauty United (UBU) and that was from Kmart for $13...there are whole rage of pink brushes by UBU at Kmart, I'm going to start collecting them.

I used the stippling brush for the first time today and it's amazing! it's so soft, little to no shedding and it's fairly dense too! I'm so happy I come across it. I admit that the fact that it's pink made me want to try it out haha pretty tragic

~ Blog ~

If wanting to try and buying

If wanting to try and buying something because it is pink is tragic....We better make Tragedy my new middle name.
Furless have an awesome pink kabuki brush I bought purely because it was pink, it was so awesome i ended up buying a few more in other colours.  I am makeup brush obessed.  1. because I think I might some how miss out of the 'perfect' brush, 2. because I tend to use so many colours in my eye makeup I need several of each type and 3. the most important, I HATE cleaning my makeup brushes and the more I have the less often I have to do it.  I'd rather do 20 once a week than 3 several times.
Sadly I don't think our K-mart has these (yet?) but Target sells Essence brushes and i'm a fan.  Especially the angled liner brush at a whole $3

The Furless brushes look

The Furless brushes look amazing, I haven't ordered any yet, but I plan to. I like the look of their fan brushes.

I'm the same about cleaning my brushes, I have so many that when one is dirty and I haven't washed it yet...I'll just use a different (clean) one hehe

Ooh, I haven't tried the Essence brushes...thanks for that, I'll check them out next time I'm in Target

Furless brushes are great,

Furless brushes are great, the purple power set is a brilliant little travel set.  If you go onto their website and look around you can find and apply for a blogger discount, 50% off your 1st order then 20% after that.  They're well enough priced as is but its a generous discount.
I'm off to check out Kmart after work, to look for the pink ones- I have to go in anyway, but now I have another reason!

Lizzi | Makeup Utopia Contributor | makeupandsmellthecoffee.blogspot.com.au

I bought a glass bowl

I bought a glass bowl yesterday from K-mart for $3 I've also dyed some rice (its drying) to make a cool brush holder, in theory it's a great plan but I think it practice its going ot be a mess...
The best brush holder I own is one I bought from Spotlight for paint brushes, its great for thin brushes like liner brushes, shadow brushes etc but in no way can it hold anything larger.

They're "Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman" brushes (as in Sam from Pixiwoo)

They're quite nice, but unusual shapes. I'll definitely be doing a brand focus on them at some point in the Makeup Brush Series.

In other news, my boring job

In other news, my boring job may have paid off, I control ordering for our laboratory here and have found scientific glass beakers for $1.50 each, cheaper then pen cups.  I'm going to use them for brush holders!!! I'm a science nerd, I can't help it!!!

I had the best idea for a

I had the best idea for a makeup brush holder, I'm not sure how it will work in practice but for paddle brushes it seems great, and should keep all that nasty dust off my precious foundation brushes...You can probably tell its a straw holder, they're pretty cheap in places like The Reject Shop, you can see all the brushes but most importantly that top means they should stay clean but are very easy to get out just like you would a straw. :)

Absolutely genius idea! This

Absolutely genius idea! This would work really well for shader brushes as well, I would imagine. I'm not sure how it would go with fluffier brushes, but it'd be worth a try! Smart thinking 99!

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned is would smoosh fluffy brushes but for flat brushes its brilliant, and in my opinion they're the ones i desperately want to keep clean because they have the potential to put all sorts of nasties all over your face...

One of the most useful things

One of the most useful things I have are these clear drawers from Officeworks.. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Office-Supplies/Desk-Accessories/Desk-Organisers/Desk-Tidy/SEDD105P
I have seen similar versions being sold specifically for makeup storage - but $17 vs $100 is really no competition as far as I'm concerned :)
